The MG is the medical-grade tier of the Whoop 5.0 platform — same screenless band, same 14-day swappable battery — with ECG contacts built into the clasp of its strap. That ECG holds a genuine FDA clearance for on-demand recordings that classify AFib — the overnight irregular-rhythm notifications Whoop also offers are not part of it — which makes it the only screenless band here with a cleared ECG. Blood Pressure Insights is the part to be careful about: it estimates daily systolic and diastolic values after a cuff calibration, has never been cleared, drew an FDA warning letter in 2025, and only survived once Whoop stripped the normal/elevated labelling and reframed it as wellness data; the FDA closed the matter in June 2026. Treat it as a trend, not a reading. The hardware is free; you are buying the $359/year Life membership.
Strengths
- FDA-cleared on-demand ECG that flags AFib
- Continuous 24/7 sampling and a 14-day swappable battery
- Whoop Age and Healthspan longevity scoring included
Tradeoffs
- Locked to the $359/yr Life tier — you cannot buy the hardware outright
- Blood Pressure Insights is an uncleared estimate, not a validated measurement
- ECG only works with the conductive-clasp band
